This post will detail my work with proportion drawing.
Before this activity, I hadn’t ever done proportion drawing as I’ve never been too skilled at drawing in general. Starting out I drew along with the video tutorials and then used reference images to do drawing of my own.
The image above shows my attempts at full body proportion drawing. The top image drawing is the one I did following along with the video tutorial, the bottom is the one I did based off of a reference image. I believe that the drawing I did based off of the reference image is better than the one I did following the tutorial. It is slightly larger than both the first drawing and the reference image but I have drawn muscles and other body parts in more proportionally correct sizes and positions. I believe I did better with this drawing as I gave myself more time instead of rushing along with a video.
The images below show my attempts at drawing proportion faces. The first I did following the video tutorial, the second I did using a reference image. I had trouble drawing both the tutorial and reference image. No matter what I did I couldn’t seem to get the head to form the shape I wanted to, this meant I ended up using the closest thing I could draw to what I wanted; that being a shape somewhat similar to the reference image. I believe that I have drawn the features in the correct postitions, with the ears being the most off, but the actual shapes of the features could use work. I kept changing the guide lines as I drew. This meant that the features would keep getting bigger and smaller to fit within them and I couldn’t quite find the inbetween I was looking for.
The drawings also lack major detail although this is because I am inexperienced when it comes to drawing proportional, detailed or realistic images of people or objects. The final critique I have of my drawings is the hair. In the first image I tried drawing the hair as strands but didn’t do enought. In the second I did enough strands but they were far too thin. The image showing the advancement of the second image has the face with a moustache and beard. I had started by trying to do it as strands but found that it didn’t work at all. I ended up just scribbling it on and making the drawing look messy. I also couldn’t get the hairlines in the right spot either, I tried again and again to make it look natural but, ultimately, ended up faililng.
Although these drawings aren’t as high of a quality as I’d like them to be, I hope to improve over time.

At a later date, I tried to draw a proportional body.

I believe that this drawing is too wide in both the central area and around the lower half of the legs, including the feet. It could be improved by making those areas thinner than they currently are.
After this, I tried drawing proportional faces. I tried drawing a few without reference, the middle and bottom right ones. These didn’t go too well, I don’t think, as they’re unnatural looking and quite strange. I then used a I then drew the other images after practising for a while. The one on the right was done quickly and the one on the left was done slower.
