As part of my characters animations. I need to be able to have it form a fist. I have used driven keys to make the process quicker. Driven keys are much like key frames though they are controlled by attributes rather than me moving elements individually. This means I will be able to move the fingers of each to specific positions more conveniently.
I first made attributes named R_Index_Curl/L_Index_Curl. I have weight painted one finger on hand as I don’t need extreme control of the fingers, this means I only had to make one attribute for each hand rather than one for each finger.
To start keying the locations of the fingers, I had to load the driver. That being the R_Arm_Ctrl then selecting the attribute, R_Index_Curl.
Overall I keyed five different positions for the hand, these were -1, 0, 1, 2, 3. -1 was the hand pulling back slightly, a bit of exaggeration before forming a fist. 0, 1 and 2 are all different states of the hand forming into a fist with 3 being the hand curled into a fist.
